Lucius Guiscareaux

Once a staunch foe of Dragonkind, Lucius Guiscareaux now finds himself on a different path. His faith in Halone remaining resolute, he now fights for freedom and safety of all beings, allied with Wyrmkind and Ishgard alike.

Born to the Esteemed Arkhan de Guiscareaux and his wife, Elthaine de Guiscareaux, Lucius was the second of twins born to the couple within the second winter of their marriage. While his brother, Engilram swiftly took after his father's gift for Statecraft and his sister followed in their mother's path as a woman at arms, Lucius was an unruly child who's anger and frequent outbursts lead to his drafting into the Guiscareaux Knights Dragoon Training Program.

The House Guiscareaux's controversial training regimen is steeped in secrecy. What is known by the public of the Ishgardian Republic is that the training is absolutely brutal, bordering on masochistic. Some circles have implied that the training program is simply an excuse to punish lower members of the house for insolence.. and even further whispers of ancient rituals steeped in Coerthan, pre-ishgardian traditions, perhaps bordering on treason..none of these rumors have been proven, of course. Whatever the case may be, its results cannot be denied, creating some of the most lethal and fanatical Knights Dragoon candidates.

Five winters into his completion of his family's training regimen, Lucius de Guiscareaux found himself inducted into the hallowed Order of the Knights Dragoon. Only six months into his service, the hamlet of Snow Circle came under attack by the wyrm Typhastkyr, descendant of Tiamat. Lucius and three other members of the Order were deployed to the village, along with a contingent of Temple Knights of Durendaire. While the events of that night have been heavily classified via the Tribunal, Lucius De Guiscareaux remained the only survivor of that cold night, and he would soon find himself at the wrath of The Supreme Sacred Tribunal of Halonic Inquisitory Doctrine.

Lucius de Guiscareaux, at the mercy of The Tribunal, was found guilty of crimes most heinous against the Holy See and a litany of other charges. In the furor of a drawn out trial, the lordling barely managed to avoid the charge of grand heresy, due in part for his slaughter of the Wyrm. Judgement was placed; Lucius de Guiscareaux was to be exiled to the Dravanian Hinterlands, the home of all dragonkind. There the lording survived, foraging off of the land, feasting on whatever food and drink he could scrounge from the forest and dales. Within these forests, Lucius remained loyal to his charges as a knight, stalking and hunting whatever dragonkin crossed his path. Throughout the war, he remained, and when the Warrior of Light had at last mended the relationship betwixt man and wyrm, his charges were dropped by the newly founded Ishgardian republic, much to the affront of Dravanian diplomats.

And thus, Lucius de Guiscareaux had returned to the city state of Ishgard. The world he had left had changed fundamentally in his absence. A theocracy in the past, a newborn republic in its place. A state of dogmatic order now ruled by the House of Lords, and a House of Commons. The tribunal that had sealed his original fate remained in power, but had found its influence slowly pulled in the coming winters.WIthin this uncertain political climate, Lucius had returned to his household. Amid tense social underpinnings and political weaving, neither of which the Lordling had true experience with, he was assigned as a diplomatic envoy to the House de Bayle, a lower noble house of House Fortemps. His service under House De Bayle would lead to his tutelage of the now deceased Knights Dragoon Hestia de Bayle, and the unfortunate destruction of a crystalline relic in ventures partaken with Lady Jancis Milburga. Within the ranks of House De Bayle, Lucius would cement the allies that would permeate his life, from his Mentor, Rageant de Lacordaire, to the interest of his heart, Gaelle de Favagenieur. With the death of primary members of the family, and changing political climates, Lucius would return to his house to serve full time, in the assistance of his family's winery affairs and further missions commissioned by a fading Dragoon Order.

Diving deeper and deeper into the codices and tomes of House Guiscareaux, Lucius became enchanted with his family's lineage. Within these histories, discoveries that lead to the questioning of kin and purpose began to stir in the man. These dark curiosities would eventually spill over into the darkest chapter of the Guiscareaux history, wherein Lucius and three of his most trusted friends and allies dug deep into the catacombs underneath the ruined village of Snowcircle, and came upon a foe far more insidious then any of them could have potentially imagined.Under the influence of terrible powers, Lucius took to the fields of Gyr Abania, a puppet in the hands of a dark god. A contingent of allies lead by Gaelle de Favagenieur and Rageant de Lacodaire managed to trace Lucius' aetherical signature, alongside the assistance of malcontents Gregor Stormborne and Arismont Sauveterre. The hunt came to blows on the desert sands of Gyr Abania. Gregor Stormborne rose arms against the Revanant-Lich Arismont, pleading for the assistance of the hunting party. Formerly bred mistrust compromised his pleas, and when he was laid low and Arismont's true nature was revealed, the party made their stand, sans Stormborne. In the aftermath, the servant-lich was returned to the lifestream, his soul shattered into innumerable pieces. The surviving broken souls took their bounty, one Lucius Guiscareaux, back to the Ishgardian Republic.Alongside the wounds and knowledge of a foe that seemed insurmountable.

Two winters have passed since the events in the scarred wastelands of Gyr Abania. The rescue party has reformed into a band of powerful adventurers in their own right. Lucius, under the healing auspices of Lady Jancis Milburga, recovered from his physical wounds, but the scars upon his mind remain. It was in this period that Lucius had reunited with Gaelle, and later worked with his sister to track down former confidents.United in purpose and zeal, the Cadre turned their attention to Anyx Trine, in hopes of understanding more of their foe, the Many Handed God. After encountering the Lunar Variant of the Gnath god Ravana.. and after barely surviving the encounter, Lucius finds himself questioning his place in the Knights Dragoon and just what his future in the Holy See entails...

  • Knights Dragoon

  • As a member of the Order in high standing, fellow dragoons may be interested in perhaps speaking or collaborating with the Lordling on some venture; perhaps exploration of the now peaceful Dravanian Highlands, or calling upon his services for the hunting of prey. Less experienced lancers may call upon him for guidance.

  • Dragonsong Survivor

  • As a Knight in service of the Holy See for more then twenty turns, Lucius has experienced his fair share of war with former heretics and wyrmkin. Fellow patriots may find solace in discussions of the war and it's experiences, while those inclined of the other side may find themselves wishing to mend the wounds of war, or yet further open them.

  • Vintner-kin

  • The Guiscareaux family heritage in the Holy See was built first upon it's wine, years before it had even begun it's controversial training programs. Fellow Ishgardians and wine-snobs may recognize the Guiscareaux wine family as advertising primarily to nobility and the upper crust, specializing in red wines. Of particular note are there limited collections of pre-calamity stock, birthed in the pre-calamity Coerthan climate. Recent rumors appear to indicate that the family has begun to import their wines towards Kugane and perhaps even as far as Radz-At-Han.
